Energy Efficiency Grading (A–F)

Large buildings get an annual energy grade posted at the entrance. Grade A = ENERGY STAR 85+. Grade F = failed to file energy data.

What is Local Law 33?

Local Law 33 requires buildings over 25,000 sq ft to receive an annual energy efficiency grade (A, B, C, D, or F) based on their ENERGY STAR score, derived from LL84 benchmarking data. The grade must be posted near the building entrance in a location visible from the street.

The grade card is issued annually by DOB and sent to the building owner. If you don't receive it, you can download it from DOB's online portal. A building that posts no grade at all is treated the same as a Grade F.
